Hi team. I’m really looking forward to seeing you all as we start back for Term Two.

We have a videoconference here in the hangout at the time we would usually have English on Thursday – and all the relevant information and materials you’ll need will be posted here on the class blog (as always!).

I hope you enjoyed reading The Book Thief over the holidays. That ending is so beautiful!

Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or are having challenges getting to class.

I have some ideas for a film festival to share with you as well. Remind me when we meet on Thursday.

Weekly Plan. Term 2, Week 1

Thursday 16 April, Period 1

Meet in the class hangout. Today we’ll take a moment to reflect on the experience of reading The Book Thief.

As we’re using The Book Thief to develop our own detailed definition of the genre of Magical Realism, I’ll share some examples of analysis with you – where I’ll outline in more detail how to elaborate on the well-established ‘SEXY’ structure, and then I’ll ask you to start working on your own paragraph-length sample of analysis.

Friday 17 April, Period 2

Independent learning: Write your own analytical paragraphs, concentrating on the specific genre feature that you elected to work with last period. You can refer to my video example of this as well as read the outline of the task here. I will be available online during this time for individual and small-group assistance.
